Érase una vez en Cardamomoland

“Todo empezó aquella mañana de templado verano finlandés. En un piso de un barrio de la periferia de Helsinki, una cocinillas española se empeñaba en darse un homenaje al más puro estilo patrio: unos lujuriosos y calóricos churros con chocolate. Mientras daba forma a aquella plasta harinosa y homicida, veía su rostro reflejado en el aceite humeante. Una rosca, y otra y otra… aquel engendro producto de la gula manipuladora y una pizca de morriña melancólica empezó a crecer y deformarse hasta convertirse en un arma mortífera. Los abetos a través de la gigantesca ventana se habían teñido de óleo chorreante. El destino había hablado.

Era hora de contarle al mundo que hacer churros sin churrera es peligroso, que la comida finlandesa no es la peor del mundo después de la británica, que los platos de toda la vida pueden ser modernos, pero no les hace falta. Que la cocina sin setas es posible.

Que mezclar no siempre termina en resaca.”

Así empezó todo. Ese mismo día comenzaba nuestra aventura bloguera, con nuestro retoño “Excuse me… I can’t stand up!”. Un año y medio, un buen puñado de historias y recetas y unas cucharaditas de fotos más tarde, nos mudamos. A una casa más grande, más luminosa y con muchas habitaciones de invitados. Para que quepáis todos.

Quiénes somos

 

Tuonela

Cocina, fotografía cosas ricas y escribe en este blog. También hace la compra.

Es española (de Jaén ni p…!), pero vive en Helsinki (Finlandia) desde hace un par de años. Estudió Derecho y Criminología pero, caprichos del destino, terminó trabajando felizmente entre los fogones de un restaurante finlandés cualquiera. Muy felizmente. Odia las setas, compra libros de cocina casi compulsivamente y se encuentra actualmente en proceso de rehabilitación por una brutal adicción al queso (y a las patatas).

Saku Kontio (Herra K)

Trastea HTML y otros asuntos y fotografía esas mismas cosas ricas, que previamente prueba y critica de manera inflexible.

Es finlandés y comparte villa (y otros menesteres) con Tuonela en Cardamomoland. Estudió Tecnología de la Información (IT) en una de esas escuelas finlandesas tan guapas y utiliza este blog como experimento personal. Come por obligación y, cuando lo hace, prefiere un combo de gastronomía finlandesa + hamburguesas + pizzas + kebabs guarrunos. También odia las setas. A Dios gracias.

Once upon a time in Cardamomoland

 

“Everything started on that warm Finnish summer morning. In a flat in the periphery of Helsinki, a Spanish foodie insisted on having the most patriotic of all breakfasts: some lustful and caloric “churros con chocolate”. While she was shaping that floury and homicidal paste, she could see her face reflected on the steaming oil. One ring, and other and other… that creature, product of the manipulative greed and a pinch of melancholic homesickness, started to grow and became deformed until turned into a lethal weapon. The firs behind the giant window got dyed by dripping oil. Destiny spoke.

It was the time to tell the world that making churros without a churro-machine is dangerous, that Finnish food is not the worst right after British, that traditional dishes can be modern, but they don’t need to be. That cooking without mushrooms is possible.

That mixing doesn’t always end in hangover.”

That’s how it all started. That same day our blogger adventure began, with our little tot “Excuse me… I can’t stand up!”. One year and half, a large handful of stories and recipes and some tablespoons of pictures later, we move on. To a bigger, brighter house, with plenty of guest rooms for you all.

Who we are

 

Tuonela

She cooks, photographs tasty things and writes in this blog. She also goes to supermarket.

She’s Spanish (from Jaén, Andalucía) but moved to Helsinki (Finland) two years ago. She studied Law and Criminology but, by whims of fate, ended up working happily in the kitchen of a Finnish restaurant. Very happily. She hates mushrooms, buys cookbooks almost compulsively and is currently involved in a rehab process for cheese (and potato) addiction.

Saku Kontio (Herra K)

He plays HTML and other games and photographs those same tasty things (after trying and criticize them in an inflexible way).

He’s Finnish and shares a villa (and some other matters) with Tuonela at Cardamomoland. He studied IT in one of those cool Finnish schools and uses this blog as a personal experiment. He eats out of obligation and, when he does it, he prefers a mix of Finnish gastronomy + burgers + pizzas + dirty kebabs. He hates mushrooms too. Thanks God.
